Landmarks
Did we grow up without changing,
all those poems merely substitutes
for landmarks, referring to lives
we didn't own? Were the stakes
of our growth reducible to a few
stone pages, whatever we could fit
within the hidden point of a word?
The lips went on and on but
in truth the tongue was viciously
seared. Already at its inception
the book was opened to its final
page, where it says we start again.
